A new demo released
My keyboard got broken, so before I get a replacement I decided to post an update on the current work "as is".
What's new:
- Network code.
- Minor graphical fixes and updates, tree animation.
- Effects (sound and particles) -- I haven't finished working on them, so they are currently disabled. Only the ambient soundtrack and menu sounds are enabled currently.
- (Demo related) Can now tweak mouse sensitivity.
Network:
The network is preliminary, so several things haven't yet been done (like the interpolation (thus the jitter)). Also it haven't been tested on the internet, bugs and other issues are possible here.
How to test:
- Create a new game using either New Game or Dedicated Server.
- Launch another copy if the game and use Connect to connect straight away to the local host (on a local machine).
Note: if you connect more than 2 clients you have to do it quick as the default lobby time is limited (you can change it in the settings menu).
Note: to launch another copy of the game you may require to drop the focus from the current window first. For this, press Esc button, the window should now enter the tint mode (it is distinguishable by the tinted color which the window obtains). If it didn't, press Esc again. You can now switch windows and run tasks from your system as normal. For returning from the tint mode use the mouse button.
- To connect via the internet you'll need to obtain the host address first. This feature hasn't yet been implemented locally, so you'll have to do it in some other way.. :(
- Note: the players won't see each other because there's no player model/animation yet, but they can drive vehicles.. (you can add additional vehicles via Levels/TestLevel/Objects.ini)
Media:
Known issues:
- Player may pass through objects (vehicles) sometimes.
- Vehicle may 'stumble' at map tile edges.
- After leaving a vehicle the player motion is sometimes broken.
- Some bugs have been noticed after level unloading (may not manifest in this build).
